Well, the next-generation RL isn't on sale quite yet, but this prototype is essentially what you'll see in production form at Acura dealerships this fall. Acura is sticking with its V-6 engine, but output should rise to about 300 horsepower. No need to worry about torque steer, though, as the new RL introduces Acura's revolutionary Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive System (SH-AWD), which is the first and only all-wheel-drive system that distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear wheels but also between the left and right rear wheels. Electromagnetic clutches in the rear differential continuously vary the torque by up to 70 percent to either front or rear and between the left and rear tires by up to 100 percent on either side. To enhance cornering precision, the rear diff also is equipped with a built-in acceleration devise that can overdrive the outside rear wheel. This device uses a planetary gear to speed up the outside rear wheel's rotation relative to the front wheels, for faster and cleaner cornering performance.
