Toyota Volta by Italdesign-Guigiaro

Front Side View

This Italian-Japanese collaboration mounts Toyota's V-6 hybrid powertrain in the rear of an exotic carbon-fiber chassis, creating a concept sports car that theoretically is capable of 0-to-60-mph acceleration in about 4.0 seconds. Because the powertrain is mounted midship and the front wheels are powered by a second electric motor, there is no transmission shaft, so Italdesign found room in the cabin for three-abreast seating, with the driver in the middle, McLaren F1-style. Named after the Italian scientist who invented the battery, the Volta is probably an exercise in international fantasy, but it looks great, and since Toyota is looking to inject some excitement into its boring lineup of cars, something like the Volta might be a good place to start.
