Coming straight outta the Tron prop room, the FINE-S presents a vision of the future in which even performance cars run on hydrogen. The FINE-S is not constrained by the packaging limitations inherent in conventional internal-combustion powerplants; as a result, a familiar kind of low-slung hammer-headed zoominess carries the day. The unveiling of the FINE-S coincides with the implementation into California fleets (UC Irvine, UC Davis) of Toyota's first fuel-cell vehicle, the Highlander-based FCHV. According to Toyota, then, automotive excitement won't die when the internal-combustion engine does.
