The box that rocks.
Nearly unchanged from when it was called the Model X concept car, the Honda Element is scheduled to go on sale this December. The boxy Element features "swing-wide" rear-hinged rear doors that, because of the lack of B-pillars, make it easy to load and unload bulky cargo. In addition, the seats can be fully reclined to form a wide cot or flipped and stowed vertically. On the downside, the rear windows are vent-hinged instead of roll-down, and the vented sunroof provides a scenic view for the rear cargo, not the passengers. Powered by the same 160-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine found in the CR-V, the Element will be available with either front- or all-wheel drive. Early pricing estimates are in the Generation Yfriendly $16,000-to-$21,000 rangeabout the same as one semester at college, Dad!
