Mmother likes to tell a story about how, before I could walk, I would try to reach out of my stroller at passing hubcaps. To say that my automotive obsession started young would be an understatement. (Sadly, my first word was not "car," but "light.") As I grew older, I loved to sit on the sidewalk in my hometown outside of New York City and watch all the new cars go by. I also littered my childhood home with 1:18-scale model cars, a plethora of Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars, and piles of car magazines. Much to my mother's chagrin, I have yet to throw out a single issue or model car from my youth, instead letting them accumulate into a shrine to my automotive fandom of decades past.
If it weren't for a shared passion of cars with my college friend Thomas, I never would have discovered the new world of automotive blogs. In college, we would sit in front of one of our computers and read through the news on a myriad of sites, and cap our sessions off with an episode of Fast Lane Daily. One painfully boring summer job later, I nabbed myself an internship with FLD that quickly morphed into a full-time job. Before landing at Automobile, I also spent some time at a new movie channel – but couldn't keep my finger out of the automotive pie, freelancing a car column for my hometown paper all the while.
No, I will not tell you what my favorite car is (there are too many variables to pick just one!), but I will tell you that I own a 2008 Mazdaspeed3. And if you buy me an ice cream cone, maybe I will sit on the curb with you, talk cars, and watch the hubcaps roll by.
