2015 Audi Q7
2015 Audi Q7

New for 2015

The Audi Q7 remains largely the same for the 2015 model year, but adds two new exterior styling packages (Offroad Style plus and Sport Style plus), Audi side assist to the Premium plus trim level and a corner view camera system to the Prestige trim level. The Q7 will be redesigned for the 2016 model year.

Vehicle Overview

The Audi Q7 is a three-row crossover that fits above the Q5 as the automaker's largest people-mover.

Summary

The all-wheel-drive 2015 Audi Q7 is powered by a trio of 3.0-liter V-6 engines all mated to an eight-speed automatic. The standard engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 280 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is good for an EPA-estimated 16/22 mpg city/highway. Audi Q7 S Line models get the same turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6, but different tuning bumps the output to 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, and is also rated at 16/22 mpg by the EPA. The most efficient powerplant is the TDI, a turbodiesel 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, and is EPA-rated for 19/28 mpg. The TDI model is priced in between the two gas-powered models. The Q7 boasts a 6,600-pound towing capacity with the Towing Package.
Some of the most notable 2015 Q7 features include a music interface (with full iPod integration), MMI infotainment (with Google Earth integration and a Wi-Fi hotspot for up-to eight devices), side assist (blind spot warning), and a 1,000 watt Bang & Olufsen audio system.
The 2015 Audi Q7 received a four-star rollover safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars), and in IIHS testing received three ratings of good (the highest possible rating is good).

What We Think

The 2015 Audi Q7 is currently the only three-row crossover available in the VW Group’s portfolio, at least until Volkswagen introduces a three-row SUV in a few years. Interior appointments are good, and the Q7 has a handsome exterior, but as we pointed out in a Driven review of a 2011 Audi Q7 TDI, “the Q7 seems to exist in the shadow of its smaller sibling. One might expect the more popularly priced Q5 to sell more, but the central issue is that the Q7 doesn't really offer much to tempt buyers away from the Q5. The third-row seat is its only real draw, but unlike those in some competitors, that back bench is strictly for kids.”
We pointed out that the TDI’s exceptional real-world fuel economy (we easily got several mpg better than the EPA) was the main pull, but almost four years later with a Q5 TDI on the market as well that redesign is looking overdue. People who want to take the family on vacation and tow something behind will be the most likely to pass over the Q5 for the Q7.
