2015 Audi Q5
2015 Audi Q5

New for 2015

Changes to the Audi Q5 for the 2015 model year are minor, with package and standard equipment changes. HID headlights, LED daytime running lights, and a power liftgate are all added as standard equipment.

Vehicle Overview

The Audi Q5 is a midsize two-row crossover that fits above the compact Q3 and below the three-row Q7 in the automaker’s lineup. The A4-based wagon-like Allroad crossover sells in the same price range as the Q5.

Summary

The 2015 Audi Q5 is available in a number of different forms, with a quintet of engines ranging from an efficient turbodiesel to a supercharged V-6. Across the line, an eight-speed automatic send the power to all four wheels, as the Q5 gets the AWD system as standard equipment.

The 2015 Audi Q5 received a four-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars), and in IIHS testing received four ratings of good (the highest possible rating is good).

What We Think

The 2015 Audi Q5 is one of the automaker’s most popular models, and not just because it occupies a popular segment. The Q5 features a roomy, nicely upholstered interior, and all the latest technology. For those considering the hybrid and diesel models, we'd suggest sticking with the diesel. In a Driven Review of the 2013 Audi Q5 line we noted about the TDI model, “There is no diesel clatter, even at idle. It's also extremely responsive, giving up nothing -- or virtually nothing -- in acceleration to its gasoline cousin [the 3.0T].”
For those who truly have a lead foot, move on up to the SQ5, which takes the formidable supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 found in things like the A7 and the S4 and bumps hp and torque into the 350 ballpark. In a Driven Review of a 2014 Audi SQ5 we said, “Body roll is practically nil thanks to firmed-up springs and hydraulic dampers … the V-6 poured power like a bottomless boat of gravy. Tire and wind noise barely intruded even at mega speeds. And a new exhaust manifold and two-mode, quad-pipe outlet provide the rowdiest soundtrack yet from the usually subdued 3.0T.”
The downsides include a finicky key (sometimes wouldn’t come out, or wouldn’t start the car), fuel economy is poor in the heavy crossover, the 21-inch wheels can compromise ride quality over broken pavement, and boy can it get pricey.
You’ll Like
  • TDI diesel fuel economy
  • SQ5 buttery smooth at speed
  • Lots of power from supercharged V-6s
You Won’t Like
  • Spending almost $5,000 more for the hybrid over the TDI diesel
  • Filling up the thirsty SQ5M
  • Q5 can get pricey with options
Key Competitors

  • Mercedes Benz GLK-Class
