New for 2015

The Audi A8 received a number of revisions for the 2015 model year, including redesigned LED headlights as standard equipment, revised front and rear fascias, a 15-hp increase in power for the 4.0T, new interior options for the S8, a new optional 20-inch wheel for all A8 models, and available night vision assistant with animal and pedestrian detection.

Vehicle Overview

The Audi A8 is a full-size luxury sedan that fits above the A6 and A7 as the automaker’s flagship model.

The 2015 Audi A8 pairs high luxury and technology with a quintet of engine choices that drive all four wheels in the automaker’s signature quattro all-wheel-drive system through an eight-speed automatic. The A8 is available in normal or long-wheelbase variants with the 3.0T and 4.0T engines.

As you'd expect on a flagship luxury sedan, the 2015 A8 offers full LED headlights and taillights, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, Google Earth augmented navigation system with an 8-inch screen, Wi-Fi hotspot for up-to eight passenger devices, blind spot monitoring, a parking system with top view, corner view cameras (useful when backing out of a parking space or pulling out into traffic), and available night vision (infrared cameras can identify pedestrians and animals at up-to 300-feet).
The 2015 Audi A8/S8 has not been crash tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS.

What We Think

The 2015 Audi A8 offers “sumptuously trimmed cabins and fanciful technologies.” The A8 continues to offer superb luxury, a planted (but not terribly sporty) ride, and power that ranges from adequate to excessive. Even with all-wheel drive on all models, the full-size A8 manages to get reasonable fuel economy on all the higher-volume models. The A8 is a wonderfully comfortable companion for long road trips, and who could resist getting the twin-turbo V-8, especially considering that it matches the supercharged V-6 for highway economy, and only gives up 1-mpg in the city? We think it’s a worthy price for the 100+ hp gain.
In a Driven Review of a 2013 Audi S8 (mechanically identical to the 2015, but without the face-lift) we said, “It is the car for the driver who loves to go fast and who loves to do so without great effort. The S8 feels quick at any pace thanks to the swell of power that's always underfoot. It is also every bit as comfortable, stylish, and luxurious as the A8. The stellar powertrain is enough of a reason to succumb to the S8, but Audi has backed it with the chassis hardware to improve cornering composure without diluting the A8's refinement.”
About the only complaints we could level against the A8 or the S8 were the overly sensitive ceramic brakes (as tested, a high-performance option) and the sometimes-unbecoming aggressive shifts of the eight-speed when the paddle-shifters were used. Audi’s infotainment system uses a touchpad and interprets characters that are “drawn” by finger when inputting information into the navigation. The system works very well, and is intuitive to use.

As the BMW 7-Series ages and the latest-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class continues its first year of sale, Audi will attempt to stake its ground in the high-end luxury sedan segment with a refreshed 2015 Audi A8.

Detroit, Michigan – Audi sold a record 158,061 vehicles in the U.S. during 2013, and with the introduction of the 2015 Audi A8 at the Detroit auto show (the car was already revealed for Europeans at the Frankfurt auto show), it hopes to sell a few more this year. As the company struggles to put the critically acclaimed Audi A8 luxury sedan on the same sales plateau as the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-class, Audi’s flagship sedan gets a refreshed appearance, a bit more power, and a range of active safety electronics. It goes on sale in the U.S. this summer.
