New For 2013

As with the A6 and the A7, the arrival of an S version of the A8 makes the headlines here. But there is other powertrain news as well, with the addition of a supercharged V-6 that brings down the point of entry for the A8 and the replacement of the 4.2-liter V-8 with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter unit.

Since its debut in 1997, every A8 has been a study in proportions, and the current one is no different. Its interior is similarly elegant and modern. Like its predecessors, the newest A8 sedan features aluminum construction, and as a result, it’s among the lightest offerings in its class. Less flab aids the car’s athleticism and fuel economy. Speaking of the latter, there’s a new, supercharged V-6 powering the base version, and it lowers the cost of entry for the A8 by some $7000. The 3.0T, as it’s known, is available in standard- and long-wheelbase forms. Next up is a new V-8, which, at 4.0 liters, is slightly smaller than before but more than makes up for it with two turbochargers. It, too, is available in both body sizes. More-sporting drivers will want to know about the new S8. It uses the same 4.0-liter turbo V-8 but is tuned up to 520 hp—enough to zip this sport sedan writ large from 0 to 60 mph in fewer than four seconds. Then there’s the W12 and its stonking 6.3-liter twelve-cylinder engine and six-figure price. The W12 is available only with the long wheelbase. All-wheel drive is standard across the lineup. So is a polished eight-speed automatic with a boat-themed shifter that is, unfortunately, cumbersome to use. But that’s about the only cumbersome aspect of Audi’s high-tech flagship.

Front, front and rear side, and side curtain air bags; traction and stability control; and ABS are standard. Blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, a rearview camera, a corner-view camera, adaptive headlights, and Audi Pre Sense Plus are available.

A8 L Front Three Quarter
The 2014 Audi A8 L W12 is already a well-appointed and exclusive sedan, but for ultra-luxury shoppers or captains of industry wishing their twelve-cylinder Quattro super-sedan had a little more pizzazz within – not to mention a little more exclusivity – Audi has this: the new A8 L W12 Exclusive.

Audi is ready to introduce a diesel version of its A8 flagship in the U.S., and the car's fuel-economy ratings clearly show the benefits of Audi's TDI technology. The 2014 Audi A8L TDI is rated at 24/36 mpg (city/highway), and goes on sale this spring from $83,395, after an $895 destination charge.
2013 Audi S8 Front Three Quarters
A large chunk of Audi’s portfolio has been updated – be it by way of a face lift, a new engine, or a full revision – for the 2013 model year. We’ve known many of the details for some time, but the automaker just released some new pricing information, namely for the 2013 A8 4.0T sedan, and the performance-oriented S5 3.0T coupe, S6, S7, and S8. Audi will be finally ditching its venerable 4.2-liter V-8 for all but the R8 and RS5 sports cars. As such, the flagship A8 sedan will trade the 4.2-liter for a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8. In the A8, the 4.0T will be rated at 420 hp and 444 lb-ft of torque. The new eight-cylinder will slot in nicely between the new V-6-powered A8 3.0T and the high-performance S8, as the 4.0T makes the run from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, versus 5.5 for the 3.0T and 3.9 for the S8. Compared with the outgoing V-8, the 2013 A8 4.0T is about $2170 more expensive, as it carries a base price of $81,795, including destination. The long-wheelbase model runs $6300 more, while the sportiest S8 -- with its 520-hp variant of the 4.0-liter V-8 -- starts at $110,895. The A8 4.0T will be available at the end of the summer and the S8 hits dealerships this fall. The other two new S-performance models for 2013 – the S6 and S7 – share the A8 4.0T's twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8, rated here at 420 hp and 406 lb-ft. Pricing begins at $72,795 for the S6 sedan and $79,695 for the S7, some $29,700 and $18,700 over the base prices of the A6 and A7, respectively. Both the S6 and S7 will arrive at U.S. showrooms this fall. Updated (but not all new) for 2013 is the S5 coupe. Compared with 2012, the 2013 S5 has revised front and rear fascias, an updated interior, and the same 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 from the S4 sedan and S5 cabriolet. Despite not having the same burble as the outgoing naturally-aspriated 4.2-liter V-8, the supercharged 3.0T produces 333 hp and 325 lb-ft. The 2013 S5 3.0T is on sale now and starts at $51,795 with destination for a Premium-Plus-trim, manual-transmission car. The seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox is a $1400 option. Buyers can also pony up $58,395 for the S5 Prestige model, which adds things like passive keyless entry, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a Google-Earth-powered navigation system. For S5 Prestige models, the S-tronic transmission is a $1090 option. Source: Audi

Recall Date
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Audi A8 and S8 vehicles equipped with a standard sunroof, manufactured March 12, 2013, through July 15, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with a standard sunroof glass panel that may shatter.
Should the sunroof's glass break while the vehicle is in use, the falling glass could injure the driver or passengers. It could also distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the sunroof glass panel, free of charge. The recall began on October 21, 2013. Owners may contact Audi of America at 1-800-822-2834. Volkwagen's number for this campaign is 60B6/1L.
