2014 audi a7 Reviews and News

2014 Audi A7 TDI Three Quarters Back View
2014 Audi A7

New For 2014

The biggest revision for the 2014 Audi A7 range is the introduction of the 2014 RS7 and the addition of the TDI diesel engine. Other revisions -- i.e. a new blacked-out exterior trim package, leather door armrests for the S7, and optional layered aluminum/wood inlays for the S7 and RS7 -- are mostly cosmetic in nature.

Vehicle Summary

After fleshing out the entry-level and mid-size sectors of its lineup, Audi proclaimed in 2011 that it was refocusing on its top-tier, large luxury range. In addition to a new A6 and A8, the automaker also introduced the first A7, a car that shares most of its components with the A6 sedan but wraps them in gorgeously sculpted hatchback sheetmetal. Initially, Audi's 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 was the only engine choice, but the S7, which packs a twin-turbocharged V-8, joined the lineup in 2013.

Overview

Beauty is a subjective topic, but it's hard to ogle the fastback 2014 Audi A7 and not concede that it oozes style. From its rakish roofline; its curt, Kamm-like tail; slender taillamps; and long, muscularly curved hood, the 2014 Audi A7 is arguably the best-looking premium four-door hatchback on the market -- or at the very least, more elegant than either the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo or the Porsche Panamera. Conservative-minded folks may prefer the form of a three-box sedan, but the hatchback does provide some additional utility compared with an A6 or an A8, even though rear-seat passengers lose about an inch of headroom.

Although all grades of 2014 Audi A7 share these slinky lines and a well-appointed cabin, buyers can still choose from among several different flavors when it comes to performance. Base A7s make use of Audi's silky 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 and pair it with an eight-speed automatic and Quattro all-wheel drive. An extra $2400 adds the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6, an engine that delivers nearly identical performance, vastly improved fuel economy, and incredible range on a single tank of fuel -- ideal for a supreme gran turismo such as the 2014 A7.

Undoubtedly, the most lust-worthy iteration is the new 2014 RS7, the second RS model in Audi's present American lineup and one of the hottest Audis sold here this side of the R8 supercar. The RS7's engine is similar to the S7's twin-turbo V-8 but tuned to crank out a scorching 560 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. That's enough power to teleport the 4475-pound RS7 from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and on to an electronically limited top end of 174 mph. Of course, that sort of performance doesn't come cheap: Audi has set pricing for the RS7 at $105,795.

  • RS7's incredible performance figures

You won't like:

2015 Audi A7 Front Three Quarters
The stylish Audi A7 gets a little more so for 2015 with a new, facelifted model for the European market. Although we don’t have confirmation that these changes will make their way to the U.S., we would expect a similar refresh treatment when the 2015 Audi A7 reaches our shores.
