2013 Infiniti G37 X

The G25 will be sold through December 2012, when it will be discontinued. The base G37 coupe, the Sport Appearance Edition G37 sedan, and the Limited Edition G37 sedan are no longer available. Silk obi aluminum interior trim on some models replaces the previous shodo aluminum trim.

The exterior of the Infiniti G37 comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic xenon headlamps, heated mirrors, fog lights, and a keyless entry system. A premium package adds a sunroof and rear parking sensors to the exterior, and a sports package adds 19-inch alloy wheels, summer tires, unique styling changes, and opens up the option for the technology package. With the technology package, the exterior also gets the addition of automatic windshield wipers. The requirement of adding certain packages to get other packages and options makes it very difficult to upgrade the G37 for a reasonable price, so it's really all-or-nothing.

For the G37 Sport the sunroof is no longer an available option and the technology package is not available. However, it comes standard with everything from the other packages. The Infiniti Performance Line (IPL) adds a sport exhaust, front and rear aerodynamic redesign, and unique badging throughout. All models come with xenon high-intensity headlamps, automatic headlamp technology, and auto delay-off headlights.

Overall, the design looks extremely attractive with a sloped roof and aggressive styling that isn't too bold. The Infiniti G37 sells as a two-door coupe, two-door convertible, or four-door sedan, all of which look attractive. The convertible comes with a hardtop that is easily managed.

The interior of the G37 offers an incredible high-quality design with plenty of flare and an attractive layout throughout. The upholstery is leather and available in either graphite or stone color. The front seats are bucket seats, but sport seats are available for all models and standard for the G37 Sport. The driver and passenger seats offer multi-level heating and eight-way power adjustments. The rear seat is a folding bench, and it features rear ventilation ducts. The instrument cluster and controls are laid out in a comprehensive manner, and it doesn't take long to begin using them fully.

Other interior features include powered windows, locks, and mirrors. Windows and locks can also be remote operated. The mirrors are heated as well. A trip computer, clock, tachometer, and low fuel warning come standard as well. The 2013 Infiniti G37 comes with cruise control, audio and cruise control buttons on the steering wheel, and a rear-view camera. Also standard is a powered rear seat entry to make it simple for passengers. Unfortunately, the rear seats seem a bit small due to the sloping roof, and they aren't very comfortable for normal-size adults. Climate controls and interior air filtration also come standard.

The entertainment system is impressive with a standard six-speaker AM/FM/CD radio with MP3 CD playback and an auxiliary jack and iPod integration. This is upgraded to an 11-speaker Bose stereo system for the G37x and G37 Sport, which also feature a DVD player and a video monitor as standard fare. The Sport also comes with a hard-drive-based navigation system that responds to voice commands. Overall, the G37 comes loaded with electronic goodies and above-par styling for the interior.

The 2013 Infiniti G37 comes standard with anti-lock brakes, brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution for powerful stopping and handling power. The airbags include dual front airbags and side-curtain airbags for protection to all passengers. The passenger seat includes a sensor that detects if anyone is present and only deploys the airbag if it is needed. Also standard is traction control and stability control, which help compensate in slippery conditions and rougher terrains. The available technology package adds pre-crash seat belts that think ahead and help reduce the likelihood of injuries.

Other standards include fog lights, an anti-theft alarm system, and dusk-sensing headlamps. Headrests include whiplash protection technology, and tire pressure monitoring allows the driver to keep the tires inflated properly for the utmost safety. A rearview camera works with parking sensors to help with hard-to-see areas during parking and reversing.

In crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2013 Infiniti G37 receives an overall ""Good"" rating for frontal crash tests and an ""Acceptable"" for side crash tests. Overall, the G37 ranks high in safety and provides an ample amount of safety features for the price tag.

The 2013 Infiniti G37 comes equipped with a 330-horsepower, 3.7-liter, V-6 engine that produces 270 lb-ft of torque. The G37 Journey and G37x come with a six-speed automatic shiftable transmission, and the G37 Sport comes with a seven-speed manual transmission. The IPL offers either transmission. The G37x features all-wheel drive while the other models use rear drive. The G37 Sport goes from zero to 60 mph in as little as 5.7 seconds, which is faster than some rivals but not the best in class.

Estimated fuel economy for rear-drive, automatic transmission models is 19/27 mpg city/highway. The G37 Sport with the manual transmission has an estimated fuel economy of 17/25 mpg city/highway. The G37x loses a little bit of fuel economy for the all-wheel drive, and it is estimated to get 18/25 mpg city/highway. The addition of all-wheel drive is easily worth the small drop in fuel economy.

The overall acceleration is very responsive, but the road and engine noise seem loud for the 2013 Infiniti G37, especially when running it hard. The manual transmission doesn't shift gears as smoothly as it should, and the automatic transmission has sloppy upshifts, but otherwise runs smoothly. The handling is impressively precise, and it remains so even on bumpy terrain.
