The year 2013 is the Corvette’s sixtieth anniversary and the C6’s final year of production. To mark these milestones, Chevy puts the Z06’s 7.0-liter V-8, drivetrain, and rear axle into a carbon-fiber-reinforced droptop to produce the 427 convertible. It may be Chevy’s fastest convertible ever, but it doesn’t knock the top-spec ZR1 off its pedestal. With a 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 V-8 that pumps out an incredible 638 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque, the ZR1 is the first production Corvette capable of crossing the 200-mph threshold. As for the other Corvettes? The base and Grand Sport models use a 6.2-liter V-8, but the GS gets a number of upgrades, including Z06 styling cues, its own gear (manual transmission) and rear-axle ratios, and available Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The 505-hp boy-racer Z06 neatly fills the gap between the base model and the ZR1 and can be had in a limited-edition Carbon model, which adds a number of performance and cosmetic upgrades, including ZR1-style aerodynamic aids, carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, and Magnetic Selective Ride Control. In fact, every Corvette model has numerous performance and cosmetic packages that allow buyers to customize their car down to the color of the brake calipers. Interior quality remains an Achilles’ heel, but the Vette continues to offer unrivaled bang for the buck.
