2012 Kia Forte Koup SX

Very little changed for the Kia Forte Koup in the 2012 model year. It is interesting to note:

• The EX model is now standard with a telescoping tilt steering wheel.
• The EX package also has redesigned gauges.

The 2012 Kia Forte Koup is the coupe version of the affordable and well equipped Forte line from this Japanese car maker. This coupe is available in two trim levels, the EX and the SX. The Forte Koup rides around on 16-inch alloy wheels in the EX trim level and 17-inch alloy wheels in the SX version. The overall body design for this car is sporty. Especially when the buyer choses a dramatic exterior color, the Forte Koup really gives an assertive impression. The front end and grille are wide for a small car and the grille itself is narrow with the Kia emblem in the center. The headlights are slanted towards the front fenders for visual effect and practicality. The hood is highlighted with detailed metal work and the doors and sides have scoped in sides reminiscent of some muscle cars. The rear fenders, like the front ones, have plenty of styling as well.

Inside the 2012 Kia Forte Koup passengers are sure to find plenty of comfort. While the materials used are of good quality, some models have shown some less than desirable workmanship. Still, the seats are supportive and comfortable overall. Passengers in the rear seat are going to have a challenge with leg room however. Children and short adults should be okay, but even an average sized adult is likely to feel the squeeze. In terms of cargo space, the Koup offers a fair amount of space. With the rear seat in an upright position this model offers 12.6 cubic feet of space to put your stuff.

With that said, the Kia Forte Koup isn’t without its comforts and technology. This car is equipped with a Sirius satellite radio complete with six speakers and single CD player with Mp3 playback capabilities. When bought new, the Koup offers three months free of the satellite radio system. It also features a USB connection, iPod integration, and auxiliary audio input. In short, the Forte Koup gives you plenty of ways to stay connected on the road.

The whole purpose of the Kia Forte Koup is to give buyers an affordable car with all of the things they need. Naturally, this includes lots of standard features. The 2012 model is equipped with anti-lock brakes, as well as stability and traction control. In terms of airbags, they can be found in the front seat side and side curtain positions. The side curtain airbags are equipped to protect both rows of seating. Additionally, this coupe also has active front head restraints designed for extra security in the event of an accident.

It would be unreasonable to expect performance results from the 2012 Kia Forte Koup, but this little car has enough power to make it worth the effort. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the EX trim level. The SX level is equipped with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder motor. Both trim levels come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. Kia’s six-speed automatic transmission is offered as a gearbox option as well. The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder powertrain offers up 156 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque. The larger 2.4-liter version increases the power to 173 hp and 168 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy for the EX model is estimated at 25/34 mpg city/highway. For the SX trim level the Koup gets about 22/32 mpg city/highway.

Behind the wheel the 2012 Kia Forte Koup offers fun and a comfortable driving experience. The smaller engine choice is more than enough for most people for everyday driving, but the larger 2.4-liter is a good choice for those looking for a bit more power. In test drives, the available manual transmission is hard to use and uncomfortable. For the most part, the optional automatic will suit most drivers better.
