2012 Ford Flex Limited EcoBoost SUV

2012 Ford Flex Review

(0 Stars)  A different kind of people mover.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview
With distinctive, love-it-or-hate-it styling and two capable V-6 engines, the Ford Flex is as adept at moving people and their belongings as a minivan and as satisfying to drive as a sport wagon. Originally introduced with a single powerplant, a competent but unremarkable 3.5-liter V-6, the Flex was one of the first recipients of Ford's EcoBoost engine. The direct-injected, turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 provides V-8-like acceleration and power while matching the fuel economy of the normally aspirated Flex. This year, however, the EcoBoost engine is only available with the top two Trim Levels; it is not available on the SE or the SEL. A six-speed automatic is the only transmission. All-wheel drive is optional on SEL, Limited, and Titanium Flexes with the normally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6. When you opt for EcoBoost, you get standard all-wheel drive, twenty-inch aluminum wheels, and leather-trimmed seats. As before, interior amenities abound, but you'll have to pay extra for many of them. Sync provides hands-free operation of Bluetooth-enabled phones and digital media players, and there is a rear-seat entertainment system to keep the kids occupied on long road trips. A rear console refrigerator holds up to seven twelve-ounce cans and cools them from room temperature to 41 degrees faster than your refrigerator at home could. In addition, you can order a host of accessories from the dealer, including interior cargo organizers, a roof-mounted cargo box, illuminated door sills, and sport pedals.
