It’s safe to say that the LX570 is not a priority for Lexus, but it did receive some minor changes for 2013. The brand’s “spindle” (pinched in the middle) grille has been applied to the front, along with de rigueur LED running lights. The interior sees minor changes. There are new colors inside and out...more
Based on the Toyota Land Cruiser, the body-on-frame Lexus LX570 comes fully equipped for off-road adventure. Its standard four-wheel-drive system includes a low range; the suspension can raise the car to clear obstacles; and hill-descent control helps it creep down steep slopes. The LX570’s tall profile affords a commanding seating position, and there are lighted running boards to help passengers climb aboard. With a standard third-row seat, the LX570 is billed as an eight-passenger conveyance, but that way-back seat more realistically fits two. And if you fill all the seats, there’s not a whole lot of room for your luggage. The LX570’s sole engine is a 383-hp V-8, which also sees duty in the Land Cruiser, the Toyota Sequoia, and the Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Its stout 403 lb-ft of torque, flowing through a six-speed automatic, are not only smooth and nearly silent, but they also do a great job of motivating this big boy. The LX570 weighs a shade under three tons, and it can tow three-and-a-half tons (a covered hitch receiver is standard). Fuel economy is a topic that’s best not discussed. Instead, buyers are invited to direct their attention to the sybaritic interior appointments. Outside, gas prices may rise and house prices may fall, but in the isolated world of the LX570, it’s easy to forget all that.
Front, knee, side, and side curtain air bags; ABS; a backup camera; adaptive front lighting; and stability and traction control are standard. Precollision warning is included with the optional active cruise control; a wide-view front and side camera system is available. Lexus’s Safety Connect telematics system includes collision response and a one-year subscription.
