The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet was introduced for 2011 and continues almost totally unchanged for 2012. Nissan's navigation system is now a stand-alone option...more
Depending on your viewpoint, the 2012 Murano CrossCabriolet is either the bravest or the dumbest vehicle to hit Nissan dealerships in decades. Either way, it's undeniably one of the most unusual. Essentially a Murano crossover with a folding soft top, the CrossCabriolet makes an awkward style statement that results in a compromised package that has four seats, two doors, and sports-car-like trunk space. Nissan tries to dress up its convertible crossover with twenty-inch wheels, chrome accents, and a choice of six colors with aspirational names like merlot and Caribbean. Drivers and passengers are treated to an attractive cabin that blends leather upholstery with aluminum and wood trim, and those in the rear seat will find plenty of legroom and top-up headroom. The fabric top does a decent job of insulating the cockpit from road and wind noise when it is in place, but the structural rigidity that is lost due to the lack of a metal roof is evident in the way the body shudders over bumps or when slamming one of the huge doors. Because the CrossCabriolet is based on a crossover, all-wheel drive is standard, and it can even tow up to 3500 pounds. Ultimately, though, we think those capabilities will be of less concern to buyers than its comfort and four-passenger capacity. The biggest question is how many buyers will be attracted by this first-of-a-kind vehicle's unusual styling.
