The Honda Fit is not only one of the newest offering from Honda, but it is also one of the most innovative hatchbacks around. The Honda Fit has some very quick responding handling and a very smart body and interior package. This vehicle is very fun to drive and if you love to zip around in a peppy little 5 speed, then this Honda is going to be your new favorite. The Fit comes with a standard 5 speed manual transmission or can be fitted with a paddle shiftable 5-speed automatic. This car has been around since 2006 and has received a totally new makeover in 2009. There are not going to be any major changes to the body or interior design for this year's model, but the 2010 Fit still has the Magic Seat in the back that offer a multitude of storage options including folding completely flat.
There is some new competition from Ford in the subcompact car market with their new Fiesta model, but the Fit is still a very strong competitor even though it may have been beat in fuel economy and overall performance.
The Range
Body style: Four-door hatchback
Engines: 1.5L, I-4
Transmissions: 5-speed manual, 5-speed automatic
Models: Honda Fit, Honda Fit Sport
What's New
The second generation Fit made its debut in 2009, so the base model returns unchanged for 2010. In addition to 16-inch allow wheels, a rear roof spoiler, upgraded trim and exterior chrome bit, Fit Sport models now receive VSA stability control and floor mats as standard. Five speed transmissions, in either manual or automatic, are available for both base and Sport models.
Exterior
The Fit is a cutely styled, practically designed compact that maximizes its small footprint with an expansive greenhouse and short nose. Sport models have ground effects, larger wheels and chrome bits to liven things up.
Interior
Honda's patented "Magic Seat" second row seat design folds three different ways for enhanced cargo carrying capacity. Air conditioning, power windows, mirrors and doors come standard while the Sport model adds navigation and USB port accessibility.
Performance & Handling
The Fit's grip and quick reflexes make it feel faster than it actually is, and quite enjoyable on twisty roads, especially with the slick 5-speed manual in hand. The 117 horsepower four-cylinder is peppy enough for passing, but fuel consumption compares unfavorably to that of newer entries to the segment. Ride suffers on the freeway. Brake performance is only fair.
Safety
Dual front and side curtain airbags, and active head restraints are standard for all models. The Fit also meets European pedestrian collision safety standards. For 2011, all Fit Sport models come equipped with stability/traction control.
EPA Fuel Economy
Fit: 27 mpg city/33 mpg highway (manual); 28 mpg city/35 mpg highway (automatic)
