New For 2014

The 2014 Acura TSX continues unchanged this year.

Vehicle Summary

The TSX sedan hasn't had a major redesign since 2009, but the Sport Wagon version was added to the lineup in 2011 and a sportier Special Edition model went on sale in 2012. The 2014 Acura TSX starts around $31,000 and competes in the entry-level segment of premium cars against the Lexus IS, the Infiniti Q50, and the Audi A4. Although the TSX has been one of the anchors of the Acura lineup its future is in question, as the brand added the ILX -- another small sedan -- in 2013.

2014 Acura TSX customers can select from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 201 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque or a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 280 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are available in the sedan, but the wagon variant is sold only with the four-cylinder. A five-speed automatic transmission is offered with both engines, and enthusiasts can take a six-speed manual with four-cylinder-equipped sedans. The most fuel-efficient configuration, the four-cylinder paired with the automatic gearbox, produces 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

The five-passenger, front-wheel-drive 2014 Acura TSX won't turn any heads -- the exterior design is low-key, in keeping with many competitors in the segment, and it carries Acura's signature grille and high-intensity-discharge lights in front. However, it is a very usable car, especially the wagon version. The Sport Wagon offers up to 66.2 cubic feet of rear cargo volume when the back seats are folded, and the rear hatch opens about 28 inches, adding further capability to stow and transport large items. There are also four storage compartments in the cabin that are not visible from the outside, which adds a degree of security. During a recent test, one of our editors praised the TSX wagon for its versatility. "This is my favorite Acura," he wrote in our logbook. "Although the TSX wagon isn't very sporty, it's comfortable, spacious, and looks pretty good. This car feels like a slightly nicer Honda Accord with more storage space. I can see why it isn't lighting the sales charts on fire, but it's a very nice package."

Acura has made a lot of noise lately with its new ILX and upcoming NSX supercar, which bookend the brand's portfolio. All of which has overshadowed the TSX, leading to rumors of its potential demise after the 2014 model year. The TSX remains well received, but is not well publicized.
